South African mining engineers and specialists joined the Colegio de Ingenieros del Perú – CD Lima for Engineering Tuesday

The Mining Engineering Chapter of the College of Engineers of Peru (Lima) is the Mining Engineering Chapter within the Departmental Council of Lima of the College of Engineers of Peru. This chapter organizes events like the National Mining Congress (CONAMIN) and promotes the sustainable development of Peru’s mining industry through technical innovation and professional development. The Mining Engineering Chapter invited the South African Minerals Processing Export Council (SAMPEC – https://saceec.com/industry-clusters/sampec/. ) international delegation of engineers visiting Peru to share their global knowledge and experience to Chapter Engineers on Tuesday, 1 October 2025 at their Lima campus.

The meeting had the participation of Eng. CIP Jorge Enrique Soto Yen, President of the Mining Engineering Chapter Lima, accompanied by Eng. CIP Juan José Quiroga, secretary of the CIP Mines Engineering Chapter, and Eng. CIP José Terrones, secretary of the CIP Mine Engineering Chapter Lima, together with the members of the Board of Directors. During the event two presentations were delivered on the technological advances and success stories of the African mining industry.

On his part, Hoosen Essack, Director of Global Sales of Roytec Global, presented case studies where the optimization of Thickeners and in particular the RadFlow feedwell design allowing for a reduction of the thickener area by 20% to 30%; lowering overall investment cost by between 12% and 20% (CAPEX), improving flocculant consumption by approximately 20% to 50% and thereby improving operational efficiency, environmental conservation and delivering demonstrable benefits. A clear example of how equipment development drives sustainability and productivity which go hand in hand towards modern and responsible mining.

Quinton Phillips of Consulmet presented innovative solutions for Dry Stack Tailings (DST), highlighting how technology and process optimization contribute to safer, efficient, and sustainable mining.
